The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to religious formation for children ages 3-12 that is based on the Montessori method of education. It was developed by Sofia Cavalletti, a Hebrew and Biblical Scripture scholar, and Gianna Gobbi, a student of Maria Montessori, beginning over fifty years ago. The presentations within the curriculum are divided into three levels: Level I (ages 3-6), Level II (ages 6-9), and Level III (ages 9-12).
At Christ the King, in our parish school we offer Level I in Kindergarten and First Grade, and Level II in Second Grade to enhance preparation for First Communion. Level I is also offered for children ages 3-6 on Sunday mornings as part of our Religious Education Program.
